When using the Canvas Course Copy / Import function to copy course content from one course / semester to another, you will copy over the Course Blog link from a previous semester or course if the course made use of WordPress. These copied blog links will point to the previous course's blog.
To avoid confusion for yourself and your students, we recommend you remove the copied / imported course blog links before you request a new course blog.
If you do not remove the copied / imported course blog link in your current Canvas course before a new course blog is created, then you will have two course blog links in the course—one that goes to the new, current course blog and one that goes to the previous course / semester course blog. See Option 3 for details on how to resolve this.

Option 1: Removing the Old Course Blog Application
- In your new Canvas course, click on "Settings" in the Course Navigation and navigate to the "Apps" tab.
- Click the "View App Configurations" button.
- Scroll down the list of apps to where you see "WordPress Integration."
- Click the Gear icon and select "Delete" from the menu that opens.
Option 2: Hiding the Old Course Blog Link in the Course Navigation
- In your new Canvas course, click on "Settings" in the Course Navigation and navigate to the "Navigation" tab.
- Locate the "Course Blog" item in the list of enabled tools and click the three-dot icon to its right.
- Select "Disable" from the menu that opens, which will move the "Course Blog" item down to the disabled tools list.
Option 3: Identifying the Old Course Blog Link to Remove When Two WordPress Integration Items Exist
If you do not remove the copied / imported course blog link in your current Canvas course before a new course blog is created, then you will have two course blog links in the course—one that goes to the new, current course blog and one that goes to the previous course / semester course blog. See Option 3 for details on how to resolve this.

- In your new Canvas course, click on "Settings" in the Course Navigation and navigate to the "Apps" tab.
- Click the "View App Configurations" button.
- Scroll down the list of apps to where you see the two "WordPress Integration" items.
- Click the Gear icon for one of the WordPress items and select "Edit" from the menu that opens.
- In the pop-up box that opens, locate the "Launch URL" field and look at the beginning stem of the Course Blog link, which will identify the year and semester the course blog is associated with.
URLs are structured to include the term code for your course. The term codes follow this structure.
- Spring 2020 → 202001
- Summer 2020 → 202002
- Fall 2020 → 202003
The year is the first four numbers, and the term is the second two numbers, with 01 representing Spring, 02 representing Summer, and 03 representing Fall.
- Once the old / copied Course Blog item is identified via the URL, you can follow the instructions found in Option 1: Removing the Old Course Blog Application.
