Any data block / table in the report can be downloaded using the same process of clicking the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. You may need to hover over the block or table to see this icon though.

Editing Report Criteria

If a student meets ALL of the criteria you select, that student will show up on the Students in Need of Attention dashboard.

At this time, there is not a way to set more complex boolean style criteria, nor is there a way to create and save different configurations of criteria for easier access. Additionally, setting criteria is on a single course by course basis. Setting criteria in one course site will not carry over or be saved to any other course site for that instructor.

  1. Navigate into the Students in Need of Attention report and click the "Edit Criteria" button in the top-right corner to change the parameters used to identify the students that will appear in this course report.
  1. A side-tray menu will open where the instructor can set criteria based on Student Engagement and Course Performance.
    1. Student Engagement criteria include:
      1. Last Page View - Minimum days since last page view
      2. Last Participation - Minimum days since last participation
      3. Fewer Discussion Posts - Compared to class average
    2. Course Performance criteria include:
      1. Minimum Course Score - Set the minimum course score
      2. Late Submissions* - More than this percentage of student's submissions are late
      3. Missing Submissions* - More than this number or percentage of student's submissions are missing
  2. Once the criteria is set, click the "Save" button at the bottom.

* Using external tools, like Gradescope, that pass a grade back to a Canvas activity in the course site do NOT also pass back submission meta-data like if the work is Late or Missing.

If you utilize an external tool to collect / complete many assessments in your Canvas course site, you will need to manually mark students as Late or Missing in the Assignment's SpeedGrader or from the Gradebook to effectively leverage the "Late Submissions" or "Missing Submissions" criteria.

Filtering Students in Need of Attention Data

  1. Navigate into the Students in Need of Attention report and click the "Apply Filters" button below the aggregate data boxes.
    1. At this time, instructors can only filter against Course Sections.
  2. Additionally, use the "Search Students" box to type the name of a specific student you are looking to find.
