Canvas External Application Updates

Gradescope Integration Updated

A necessary security update to the Gradescope integration in Canvas has disconnected existing Gradescope courses / assignments from their Canvas counterparts. No Gradescope data has been deleted or lost because of the update to the new integration of Gradescope.

Instructors using Gradescope in their Fall 2026 courses should reconnect their Gradescope courses / assignments if they were already linked in Canvas.

Microsoft OneDrive LTI Migration to Microsoft Education

Microsoft is deprecating their Microsoft OneDrive integration with Canvas, which will break all existing OneDrive links made with this integration on September 17, 2026. We are replacing the Microsoft OneDrive integration with the Microsoft Education tool, which allows users to link to OneDrive files in Canvas.

Prior to the September 17 deprecation date, Instructors are highly encouraged to use the provided OneDrive Migration Tool in their Canvas courses to batch migrate their linked OneDrive files.

Failure to migrate OneDrive links prior to September 17 will result in the links breaking and the OneDrive Migration Tool to no longer function to quickly and easily migrate links.

Ed Attendance Now Available

We are excited to share that we have made the Ed Attendance tool available in Ed Discussions for faculty to begin using in academic courses moving forward.

The Ed Attendance tool allows faculty to create individual class sessions where students can check-in through:

  • QR Code
  • Password
  • In Person Codes
  • Manual Check In

To learn more please check out our Ed Discussion: Enabling the Ed Attendance Tool in Ed Discussion support article.

Turnitin Feedback Studio Integration Now Available

A new installation of Turnitin is now available in your courses within Canvas @ Yale, giving you access to the Feedback Studio integration of Turnitin alongside the traditional version you may have previously used.

Both integrations are fully available in Canvas @ Yale, allowing you to choose the version that best fits your course structure and grading workflow.

Plagiarism Framework (existing integration): This option integrates directly with Canvas SpeedGrader and generates Similarity Reports while allowing instructors to keep grading and feedback within the standard Canvas tools. To configure it, use the Plagiarism Review dropdown menu under the Online and File Upload submission type settings when creating or editing a Canvas assignment.

Turnitin Feedback Studio (new integration option): This option provides access to Turnitin’s comprehensive markup tools, drag-and-drop QuickMark comments, integrated rubrics, and feedback interface. Instructors can grade within either the Feedback Studio interface or Canvas SpeedGrader. To configure it, select the three dots next to +Assignment on the Assignments page in your Canvas course.

To see a full comparison of both tools, please see our guide, Turnitin: Feedback Studio Vs Plagiarism Framework - Feature Comparison.
