The IgniteAI Search tool allows instructors and students to search content of a Canvas course site to more easily find course materials.
IgniteAI Search only indexes and returns content found in:
- Content Pages (Pages, Syllabus, etc.)
- Announcements
- Discussion Prompts
- Assignment Descriptions
IgniteAI Search does NOT currently search or index course Files (neither the names of files nor their content).
- Navigate to the course where you want to enable IgniteAI Search and click on "Settings" in the Course Navigation menu on the bottom-left side.
- Click on the "Feature Options" tab across the top.
- Find the feature option called "Search for Courses".
- You can use the search bar at the top to help you locate this option.
- In line with the "Search for Courses" option, click on the red X and select "Enable". The red X will become a green check mark to denote that your changes are saved.
- If there is a red x on the "Search for Courses" line, then the tool has not yet been enabled. If there is a green check mark, the tool is already enabled.
- Refresh your page or navigate to the course homepage. You will now see "IgniteAI Search" at the top of your navigation.
Instructors can now disable the tool from the navigation. This hides the tool for students, but instructors can still access it.
