IgniteAI Discussions & Announcements Translations are an AI powered tool that can translate discussion topics and replies, as well as announcements in a course.
When this feature is enabled by the instructor for a course, both Instructors and Students are able to translate discussions and announcements for themselves. Translating a discussion or announcement does not translate it for other users in the course site.
Currently, 10 languages are supported. The available languages are:
- Catalan
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Russian
- Spanish
- Swedish

This article will address the following information:
Generate Translation for a Discussion
- Navigate to a Discussion that you want translated and click the "Enable Translation" button in the top-right corner.
- A "Translate Discussion" box will open where you will use the "Translate to" drop-down to select a language.
- Once selected, click the "Translate" button.
It will take a few moments to process and translate the discussion. Every discussion response in the particular discussion activity will be translated.
- The translated version of the discussion prompt and discussion responses will appear directly below the original text.
- The translation will try its best to maintain proper formatting (i.e. bold, italics, underlines, ordered and unordered lists, etc.).
Navigating away from a discussion or announcement that has a translation generated will remove the translation and require you to generate the translation again.
Generate Translation for an Announcement
- Navigate to an Announcement that you want translated and click the "Enable Translation" button in the top-right corner.
- A "Translate Announcement" box will open where you will use the "Translate to" drop-down to select a language.
- Once selected, click the "Translate" button.
It will take a few moments to process and translate the announcement text.
- The translated version of the Announcement will appear directly below the original text.
- The translation will try its best to maintain proper formatting (i.e. bold, italics, underlines, ordered and unordered lists, etc.).
Navigating away from a discussion or announcement that has a translation generated will remove the translation and require you to generate the translation again.
Disable Translation for a Discussion / Announcement
- On the discussion or announcement page that has generated a translation, click the "Disable Translation" button in the top-right corner.
- In the pop-up modal that opens, select either the "Close and Keep Translations" or the "Close and Remove Translations" option.
- Closing and keeping the translations will remove the translation language selection box, but the translated text will remain below the original language text on the discussion or announcement.
