Viewing Media Library Item / Folder Statistics and Usage

These stats can provide general insight into which media items are being viewed, how many times they are being viewed, and which points in the item are being viewed, as well as other stats that may be of interest.

Commenting on a Media Library Item
Updated onArticleInstructors and students can use the Discussion tab on any Media Library item to post comments about the material. Comments posted here can be seen by everyone watching the content, and are associated with a timestamp in the material when posted so the comment is contextualized with a specific point in time.

Sharing a Media Library Folder
Updated onArticleThe Media Library folders are usually shared with a group of users informed by the enrollment of a Canvas course. It is possible to provide individual users access to an entire Media Library folder of content so that they can view and/or create / manage the materials in the folder. This from of sharing is potentially preferable if an instructor has many media files they are looking to share in a folder and they do not want to provide access to the media content at the individual file level.

Creating / Managing a Video Assignment Folder in the Media Library
Updated onArticleWhen instructors are looking to collect longer-form video / media submissions from students, they may not be able to use Canvas' standard Assignment activities because the file sizes are often too large to upload and store. Instead, instructors can use an Assignment Folder in the Media Library to make a dedicated folder for students to upload their video / media files, which can even be configured to allow students to view what their peers submitted to the Assignment Folder.

Creating New Media Library Folders
Updated onArticleEvery Canvas course has access to the Media Library, which creates a course folder that provides access to any media files uploaded to it to the students enrolled in the course. Instructors can also create new sub folders in their Media Library course folder to organize materials. These additional folders can also be used to change the share / access permissions that the main Media Library course folder sets.

Embedding Media Library Content into Canvas Pages
Updated onArticleWhile Media Library content is available to students through the Media Library section of a Canvas course, instructors can embed Media Library content into Canvas Pages (or anywhere there is a Rich Content Editor). Embedding media content cal allow students to view and access the materials with additional context provided through extended descriptions on a page. It also allows instructors more control of presenting and sequencing of these materials in the course schedule. This article will go over how to embed Media Library content into Canvas pages.
