Attendance scores taken within the Ed Discussion attendance tool can be sent back to the Canvas Gradebook as part of class assessment.
It is recommended that you create all of your course sessions for the semester before clicking the "Passback" button to push grades back to the Canvas gradebook. Try not to create / add ad-hoc attendance sessions.

Syncing Ed Attendance Scores to Canvas
You will need to manually click the "Pushback" button in the Ed Attendance Grades section every time you want sync grades to Canvas.
- Within the Attendance section of the Ed Discussion tool, navigate to the Grading section.
- Select the check box next to "Session" to select all sessions and ensure the scoring mode is set to "Binary". This will pass back the grades as 1 point for checking in to the course session and 0 points for not checking in.
- Set the scoring mode to "Custom" if you want to customize the grade points and allow for Present, Late, Excused, and Absent attendance marking / grades.
- Total scaling will default to the total number of sessions run for the course at the time and will automatically adjust when future sessions are run.
- The "Grades" section at the bottom of the page will show a list of students in addition to their number of sessions marked present or absent. The score will reflect the total number of sessions run in the course and will automatically update as future sessions are run.
- Select "Passback" to send the grades back to the Canvas Gradebook.
- The first time this is done, an assignment will be created in Canvas titled "[ed] Attendance" with a score based on the amount of sessions initially being sent to the Gradebook. You will see "Success" in the status section when the grades have been successfully sent to Canvas.
You will need to manually click the "Pushback" button in the Ed Attendance Grades section every time you want sync grades to Canvas.
Adjusting Canvas '[ed] Attendance' Item to Resolve Pusbback Errors
It is recommended that you create all of your course sessions for the semester before clicking the "Passback" button to push grades back to the Canvas gradebook. Try not to create / add ad-hoc attendance sessions.
When passing back grades after additional sessions have been added, you will see an error regarding a discrepancy in the total number of potential points of all created sessions and what Canvas is expecting as the total possible points for the Canvas assignment item receiving it.
To remedy this, you will need to edit the Canvas Assignment to adjust the total possible point value to the new potential possible points of your Ed Attendance sessions you are pushing back to Canvas.
- To adjust the assignment settings after running future, ad-hoc sessions, select the 3-dot icon next to the Ed Attendance assignment and select "edit".
- Adjust the "Points" field to reflect the new number of total potential points being sent from the Ed Attendance tool to the Canvas Assignment, then retry step 5 from above to pass back the new attendance score.
