Reserving a Time Slot in the Sign Up Tool (Student Guide)

Instructors and courses may leverage the Sign Up tool in Canvas to schedule and organize events such as office hours, study groups, advising, etc. This article will show you how to use the Sign Up tool to reserve or release a time slot within an appointment group in Canvas.

This article will address the following information:

Reserving a Time Slot

  1. Click on the "Sign-Up" tool from your Global Navigation.
  1. Click the name of the Appointment Group you want to reserve time for.
    1. View the "Date" range for the appointment group.
    2. View the "Description" provided by the Instructor or Teaching Fellow / TA for the appointment group.
    3. View the "Location" for where the appointment will take place.
    4. Identify which course "Calendars" the appointment group is associated with by hovering over the icon.
    5. See the max number of "Participants" allowed to schedule a single time slot.
  1. Once in the Appointment Group, you can identify the following information.
    1. Date of the appointment time slots.
    2. "Start Time" of the appointment time slots.
    3. "Status" of the appointment time slots to see if it is available or reserved.
    4. The number of "Participants" who have also reserved that appointment time slot.
  2. Click the "Reserve" calendar icon for the time slot you want reserve.
  1. If applicable, type in any "Reservation Comments" you will like the instructor.
    1. It is not necessary to provide a comment in this text box to proceed with completing your reservation.
  2. When ready, click the "Reserve" button.

Releasing a Reserved Time Slot

  1. Click on the "Sign-Up" tool from your Global Navigation.
  1. Click the name of the Appointment Group you want to release a reserved time slot for.
  1. Once in the Appointment Group, identify your Reserved time slot and click the "Unreserve" X-button for that time slot.
  1. If applicable, provide a "Cancellation Reason" to the instructor.
    1. It is not necessary to provide a reason in this text box to proceed with canceling a reservation.
  2. When ready, click the "Unreserve" button.
