Modifying Your Default Canvas Account Notification Settings

Updated on

Within Canvas @ Yale, you can modify your account notification settings to determine how frequently you receive email notifications from your Canvas @ Yale course sites. Your account-level notification settings are your default notification preferences, which will be used in all Canvas courses. You are able to set your notification preferences at the course-level as well.

Course-level notification preferences override default (account-level) notification preferences. Review the Modifying Your Canvas Course-Level Notification Settings article for more information.

Changing Default Account-Level Notification Preferences

Notifications received from Canvas to your email address will come from "[Course Name] <[email protected]>"

  1. Click on "Account" on the Global Navigation.
  2. From the side menu that appears, click "Notifications."
  1. Next to each notification item in the list, click the icon in the "Email" column to select the notification frequency.

Notification Frequency Icons

  1. Notify Immediately (solid bell): Receive notification email right away.
    1. Notifications will be delayed one-hour to capture any changes, which prevents multiple notifications at the same time.
  2. Daily summary (calendar with number): Daily notification via email.
    1. Daily notifications will be delivered around 6pm.
  3. Weekly summary (calendar with date boxes): Weekly notification via email.
    1. Weekly notifications will be delivered Saturday between 4pm and 6pm.
  4. Notifications off (clear bell with slash): Does not send notification email for that item.
