How do I upload a file to a course?

  • By Default, you are given 1 Gig of space within your Canvas course. For any reason you feel you need more space, please email and we are happy to assist you.
  • Video and media files should be uploaded into the Media Library tool and not into Files.

Open Files

Open Files from course navigation

In Course Navigation, click the Files link.

Upload File

Click the upload file button on the top right corner of the files area.

Click the Upload button.

Open File

Find the file that you would like to upload within your file explorer and then hit open.

Click the title of the file you want to upload [1] and click the Open button [2].

OR Upload Files via Drag and Drop

Upload Files via Dragging document from your computer and dropping it in the files area.

You can also add to your files area by simply dragging and dropping the files from a file window directly into the Canvas file repository. Click the title of the file you wish to add [1] and drag the file to your open browser [2]. Your file will automatically upload.

Replace Duplicate File

When you are trying to upload a duplicate file, you can choose to replace the current file or change the file's name.

If a file with the same name already exists in the folder where you are uploading your file, you will be asked if you want to replace or rename it.

To rename the file, click Change Name button [1]. This option will create a duplicate copy of the file with a different name.

To replace the file, click the Replace button [2].

What if I have large media files?

Use the Media Library tool to house your media files for streaming. Here are a set of guides for accessing and using the Media Library in Canvas
